This year’s Illini Days, which took place November 12-16, celebrated our many connections with a series of speakers, events, and performances. Women in Media | 11.13.18

The week’s events kicked off with a discussion of women in media at the Museum of Broadcast Communications. The panel discussion was moderated by Niala Boodhoo, host of Illinois Public Media’s The 21st. She was joined by alumni Kelly McEvers (LAS ’96) from NPR, Susie An (MEDIA ’05) from WBEZ, Geneen Harston (MEDIA ’01) from Rivet Radio, Carol Voronyak (MEDIA ’04) from ESPN, as well as College of Media Associate Professor Nikki Usher.

Marching Illini | 11.14.18

Midweek, the entire city of Chicago was treated to the first-ever Marching Illini Riverboat performance down the Chicago River.

Western Suburbs Reception | 11.14.18

Alumni and friends gathered at The Morton Arboretum on Wednesday evening to visit with friends and tour the grounds. Arboretum President Gerry Donnelly welcomed the guests and Professor in Recreation, Sport, and Tourism Laura Payne presented a brief talk on urban green spaces.

Northern Suburbs Reception | 11.15.18

Hundreds of alumni gathered at the North Shore Country Club for an evening of networking and talks by Chancellor Robert J. Jones, Josh Whitman, Director of Athletics, and Illinois Alumni Association Board Chair Pat Basu (ENG ’00) .

Illinois Luncheon | 11.16.18

Alumni capped off the week by attending a luncheon at The Ritz-Carlton, where Chancellor Jones engaged in a panel discussion with deans from four colleges—Vikram Amar, Law; Feng Sheng Hu, LAS; and Tracy Sulkin, Media; Kevin Hamilton, FAA. They discussed current initiatives as well Illinois’ bold vision for the future.
